Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nübel (26), who has been on loan at AS Monaco since the beginning of the 2021/22 season, is unkeen on a potential recall, according to sources contacted by Get French Football News.

As reported by , following the season-ending injury to Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich’s “plan A” is to repatriate Nübel, who is 18 months into his two-year-long loan at the Principality club. The Sky Germany reporter added that the Bavarian club are in contact with Monaco in order to reach an agreement for his return.

However, as Nübel told Get French Football News’ Luke Entwistle in an exclusive interview in September, he believes there is “no sense” in his returning to Bayern Munich whilst Neuer is still number one, and he even evoked the idea of a more prolonged stay in the Principality. Plettenberg has confirmed that Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell would be keen on extending his loan beyond its current expiry at the end of the season.

As he was back in September, Nübel remains unkeen on a return to Bavaria, unless certain conditions are met. If he is to go back, he wants playing time assurances post-Neuer injury. In addition, he is enjoying his time at Monaco and loves working with the club’s goalkeeper coach Frederic De Boever, whom he credits with transforming his career.

Bayern Munich’s attempts to recall Nübel are therefore creating a tense and uncomfortable situation for all involved in the deal.
