Bayern Munich told to complete Aston Villa transfer as long-term legend replacement

The latest Aston Villa transfer news as the Bayern Munich are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper following Manuel Neuer’s injury.

German giants Bayern Munich have been urged to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as a long term replacement for the injured Manuel Neuer.

The German goalkeeper has been ruled out for the season after breaking his leg on a skiing trip. He had surgery last week but will now undergo rehabilitation.

The injury has left Bayern likely to move for a goalkeeper when the January transfer window opens in the new year. It has been suggested by former Liverpool and German international Didi Hamann that the club should be on the lookout for a long-term replacement for the 36-year-old, with Martinez one of the names he suggests.

“The serious injury to Manuel Neuer has put Bayern in a very difficult situation for which they can do nothing,” Hamann wrote in his column for Sky Sports Germany.

“Bayern are buying themselves time with a possible (Alexander) Nübel return. I think they should sign a goalkeeper who is then guaranteed a real chance to stay in goal after Neuer’s return, if he earns it with good performances in the coming months.

“The questions are: Will Neuer return and if so, how? The performances have already not been what they used to be lately. He didn’t hold up well at the World Cup either.

“At 36 and soon to be 37, it is an enormous ordeal to slog through months of rehab.

“If the Bayern bosses think that they are now going to get a keeper who has the potential to guard the Bayern goal for years to come, they could also think of Argentine international Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa or look into the Croatian goalkeeper.”

Martinez has been linked with a move away from Villa Park after catching the eye in helping Argentina to the World Cup final. But should clubs come calling in the upcoming transfer window, Villa will be in a strong position to fight off any interest with the 30-year-old having four-and-a-half years remaining on his contract with the club.
